Do you have any "success stories" for me to see if the people at the Scotlandville Adult Learning Center are in similar situations as I am?
There have been many success stories at SALC. The following are but a few of them in their own words.
“…I am a former student from the Scotlandville Adult Education Center, and it is because of Mr. Ferris’ hard work, outstanding teaching tactics, and his never ending motivation and encouragement that I was able to successfully pass the GED test…When I was notified that I had successfully passed all portions of the GED test, I immediately went to Mr. Ferris and thanked him for all the time and attention he devoted during my studies. After taking the GED test [the first time]…and learning that I had not passed the Mathematics and Language Arts/Writing portions, I was extremely discouraged. It is because of Mr. Ferris, that I had the drive to continue going to school and studying harder to ensure that on my next attempt, I would be successful…I am no longer considered a statistic by this judgmental society we not live in. By possessing a GED, this has opened new doors for me and I have Mr. Ferris to thank for all of my future success.” --a GED graduate
“I don’t know where to start in expressing my gratitude and thanks to two of your employees that made a difference in my son’s life…Mr. Ferris made the world of difference in my son. The day my son met Mr. Ferris, his outlook on achieving his goal improved 100%. He gave (my son) the confidence that he could do it. Worked with him one on one giving him the guidance to earn his diploma. (My son) was diagnosed with a learning disability when he was in the 6th grade, and has struggled since then with retaining what he learned. Mr. Ferris had a way to teaching my son that no one in the past had ever done. I can’t thank Cathy and Michael enough for what they did in the past year. When I received the call that (my son) had passed, I think everyone in the building heard me! Through the years, I stressed to (my son) that you can accomplish anything you put your mind and heart to, and with the help of Michael Ferris, huge goal of my son’s has been accomplished.” --parent of GED graduate
“My son was diagnosed with dyslexia about four years ago. We enrolled him in [school name's withheld] As you probably know this is a great school. (My son) did well at this school, then he started having problems. These problems caused him to get expelled…we had him evaluated by psychologist and psychiatrist to no avail. Then the last time he was expelled we had to get him hospitalized. This time the doctors, as far as we are concerned, made an accurate diagnosis. They diagnosed him with Social Anxiety Disorder and Depression. So, with the anxiety, he wasn’t able to go back into a normal classroom setting…So I ended up retiring from my job to home school him…Then a good friend of mind told me about the Scotlandville Adult Learning Center. Getting a GED wasn’t exactly what I had planned for (my son), but he was willing to give it a try. He and Mr. Ferris connected and the rest is history. February 2007, (my son) obtained his GED.
…my son has been in private schools since 4th grade. Education is very important in my household. The [school's name withheld] is very expensive, but money is not object when it comes to education. I say all of this, not to boast, but to show you the lesson God has taught me and my wife. The GED program at the Scotlandville Adult Learning Center was free. The lesson we learned was money can’t buy everything. You see even though we could have taken him to any of the GED centers in the parish, God led us to this one…My vocabulary is limited and so I don’t have the words to adequately express my gratefulness…” --parent of a GED graduate
