Steps for Getting a GED

How do I get a GED?

There are several basic steps that you should take in order to obtain a GED. More information about each step can be found on the other pages of this website.

    Steps towards Earning a GED:
  1. Enroll in a GED program. (See our The Enrollment Process webpage.)

  2. Take the TABE test. (See our TABE Test Information webpage.)

  3. Come to the program for the amount of time that it takes you to become ready to take the GED.

  4. Sign up for the GED test. (See our Signing up for the GED Test webpage.)

  5. Take the GED. (See our GED Testing Sites and Dates webpage.)

  6. Pass the GED! (See our Passing the GED webpage.)

  7. Begin your new life as a person with a GED! Start looking for opportunities for careers, more education, etc. (See our What Can I do with a GED? webpage.)

Please note! While those who are 16 to 18-years-old must go through an approved adult learning center, those who are over 18 could technically just take the test on their own. However, we at SALC feel that a structured program will give you the support that you may need in order to be as successful as possible.
